Mark was brought up on the Leeds Liverpool Canal and places such as River Ribble, River Dane.
He started match fishing in 1980 and soon got involved with Widnes Angling Centre Match Team. He moved to London in 1984 where he was attracted to big carp and so got involved with the specimen world and fished various places in the Colne Valley and travelled to places such as Southern Spain in search of specimen carp.Around 1990 he got back into match fishing and started to fish the Surrey Winter League with Weybridge Guns and Tackle against teams such as Dorking and Banstead.
The learning curve in that sort of company was pretty steep and Mark learnt a lot. After a while, he started fishing a venue called Stubpond which was a carp lake with some larger match size carp. His specimen experience definitely helped him here and he soon was winning his fair share of matches and even God , commonly known as Steve Gardner asked a few questions about how he was feeding.
This is where Mark learnt about putting big weights on the scales and landing double figure fish on the pole. He also got involved with a team called Meatbashers which was bascically a bunch of blokes fishing Stubpond who sort of evolved into a team. As a team they qualified for the NFA Builder Center Final at Whiteacres beating Dorking in the semi final at Stubpond.
The Meatbashers team has now evloved to a stage where they have just fished there first Winter League Semi Final on the Kennet and Avon Canal and we are now sponsored by Trabucco, a large Italian company with big plans for the UK market. All in all, the future is bright for both Mark and his team, and you can read all about there exploits here on fishing4fun!
