Bob began writing magazine articles for Coarse Angler magazine in 1997. Since then he’s written for Angling Times, Coarse Fishing, Improve Your Coarse Fishing, Let’s Go Coarse Fishing, Coarse Fisherman, Match Fishing, Midland Angler, Northern Angling Today, Carp World, Carp Angling News and Techniques, Catchmore Carp and that’s not to mention editing Advanced Carp Fishing for six years. He’s also appeared in magazines in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Bulgaria and the USA.
He writes an award winning weekly newspaper column for the UK’s best selling regional sports paper, the Green Un, based in Sheffield, and has done so for over ten years. He uses the column to encourage and support the local club match scene. The Green Un’s annual Club Match Angler Championship which Bob organises is the biggest of its kind anywhere in the UK. It costs the clubs nothing to take part and attracts hundreds of entries each year. Payouts in 2007 topped £7,500 and are set to go even higher in 2008.
Author of a sell-out book, the Complete Book of Legering, described by Dr Barrie Rickards as ‘the best work ever on the subject’, he has contributed guest chapters to several other books and has two more books of his own in the pipeline.
A match angler for many years, Bob was a member of the Goldthorpe squad that won consecutive National Championships, the first with a record number of points in a field of 107 teams, before branching out into carp and specialist fishing. In 1997 he won the prestigious UK Masters Angling Championships on Sky TV, a competition that required the UK’s most successful competition and specialist anglers to go head-to-head in ten different disciplines over a physically gruelling 42 hour session on a 300 acre estate.
A regular on the public speaking circuit, Bob has carved out a reputation as one of the UK’s leading specialist anglers and is a regular traveller to exotic angling destinations like India, Nepal, Africa, Canada, the United States and France. It’s no idle boast that he can claim to have been there and done that without any fear of contradiction.
Two years ago he launched the Don Valley Specimen Group and we’re sure he’ll be calling on the services of his mates to contribute guest articles.
