Default less is better

3 years ago i got back into match fishing having been thrown in at the deepend with the big boys i thought it was time for a new pole i took my time in choosing the right one and end up getting the maver 371.anyway £1.500 later i thought yeah great buy, nice and light and ultra stiff just what i was looking for?
then early this season it all started going horribly wrong ive had 7 number 6 sections and 1 number 7 and 3 top kit break when playing fish.??????
ive even sent the pole back to maver with my top kits to test the elastics.
returned it to me and told me its fine.
ive had alot of experience with poles and know its nothing im doing wrong.
ive got an old shakespeare pole that ive had for 6 years and never broke a ssection.
is anyone out there having trouble with there maver.

yes me... i have the elite 47 and had nowt but probs.. altho maver did replace a 13mtr section free of charge they first insisted it was a impact fracture not a manufacturers fault.. i havnt experianced nothing like you tho with all those breakages... mine was the likes of top kits not fitting properly and sections not going together properly to which im told it is well within tolerance.. i was at fisho yesterday and spoke to mr brisco and pulled him on the matter of the probs ive had and to be truthfull if it was not the fact i was kinda blocking his way from getting past me he wasnt perticuly taking any notice sort of looking around not paying attention as i was explaning things to him it was more of yea ive had your money stop wasting my time sort of look.. but what really got his attention was when i told him my pole was short...i posted a thread on here about it the other day saying the 13mtr section right at the end from tip with a match no1 in actually measured 12mtr not the 13mtr stated on the section.... to which he was most shocked but told me that was impossible so i have now got to arrange for my pole to go back to him to be examined.. but what the outcome going to be????? i will have to wait and see

I have 2 Maver poles, a Messiah I got a couple of years ago and a Microcrystal Match which is prolly 6 years old now. I noticed a massive difference in the wall thickness of both poles but have to say I'm very pleased with the Messiah, only had 2 sections break on me and both nothing to do with the pole or the way it's made. Had one broke last week at White Acres after some old woman decided she couldn't wait 10 seconds for me to land a fish n tried to hurdle my pole... and failed!
You only have to look at the amount of poles Maver sell each year to realise they are doing something right, however you will get the odd pole that isn't up to the usual high standard, thats the same for any manufacturer.

good point about the ammount of poles they sell but i think there aiming at the lower end of the market with certain items!! think also expectations are high as well, you see if you pay say 200 quid for a pole youd expect it to be ok but not amazing although the poles that only go up to 14.5mtr are good but when you want that little bit extra out of it its performance fails.. where as when you pay 3 grand for a pole youd expect it to make your rigs up and carry your tackle to your peg...what im trying to say is maver i think have a very clever selling thing going on yes they may have the best so called sub 500 pound poles out but when you start to break em you start to think i should bought another make instead and i know a lot of people that have had maver poles and WILL not buy an other..
my views are from my own feelings having experianced this with the pole i have (elite47) and if anyones reading this thinking of not buying a maver pole because of the readups its up to you to make your own mind up..

Maver have had a reputation for breakages in my area for years and loads of anglers i know would never consider buying one, that said ive seen loads of top end daiwa poles with bandages on. If i were looking for a pole i would check the new tricast ones out they seem to be very robust, may be a few grammes heavier but so what.

I may be wrong....but are Maver poles not made by Reglass in Italy???

Some of the points all of you raise all seem to revolve around quality control issues.....and I have big sympathy......for example if the stitching is slightly wrong on a Marks & Spencers Shirt / suit or whatever....they swop it immediately, no questions.

I personally think the tackle trade is a little behind, and a the general attitude is "Oh well I'm sure it will be OK"

But hey.............we're only the guys who pay the dosh and keep all these people in business.......guys please listen to your customers.....yes there will be heavy handed anglers.....but there will also be legitimate anglers who have paid a small fortune for their prize possesions which break due to no fault of mis-use.

cheers

Calvin will probably say it's because I don't use them enough, but I have had 2 maver poles, an armageddon and now a 371 and have only broken 1 section which was my fault, no other problems.
