Unhappy Explain the logic of this!!

For about the dozenth time now ive seen anglers with seatboxes costing around £700 fishing with poles costing £400 to £500 wot is that all about, its like a runner paying £100 on shorts and runnin in slippers. Somebody who spends there dollar in this way on there kit or knows someone who does please explain the reasoning behind it.

my simple logic is is there much difference in a pole between 500 and 1500 quid.... as many of my post have been about my maver elite47 pole im selling it on ebay item number..330257425845 if anyones interested..
well i got the garbolino g box (carbon version) costing 499 the pole cost me 2grand now im selling it to get the new garbolino g power pole costing only 700quid... not being a tackle tart have matching gear just bought the things i can get the most out of.
i would like to hear views and opinions on it tho.

There is a lot less difference between the thing you park ya arse on between £300 and £700. Top match anglers tend to make sure they have a top pole and the box comes next. A £500 13mtr pole may not be too far from a £1500 pole at 13mtr but get them together at 16mtr and there worlds apart. What are the benefits of sitting on a £700 seat on a peg with an island at 16mtr but you cant connect with your bites because your pole at 16mtr is a banana and your back is breaking and the breeze is blowing it all over the place. I see no sense when like i said earlier the box is worth significantly more than the pole. Me thinks its bad spending or someone sold some good advertising. You dont see this miss match often and thats because it dunt make sense

I suppose its better to get battered on a comfy seat than an uncomfy one! Mind you, then you would think a bed chair would be better!

As you say, I think clever advertising by manufacturers has a lot to do with it Campo. I for one was fooled into buying a top of the range pole and box much before I was ready for one. When I think back, I spent a summer working for a builder three days a week labouring, and at a restaurant four nights a week pot washing/ waiting on so I could afford to by my G995/ Milo box three years ago. In hindsight, the money would have been much better spent entering matches and building up experience.

You see a lot of young anglers on the bank with top of the range poles/boxes and unfortunately the tag ' all the gear no idea' fits quite well, and I feel the same could have been said of me.

What strikes me with the REALLY GOOD young anglers, take 'three times' for example, is that they are out on the bank a lot. I rang Matt the day after he got back from the world champs and he was pleasure fishing on the Chessy canal, he went barbel fishing on the rother yesterday, is pleasuring at kiveton waters today and fishing a knockup I am running at Charnock tonight. While he has got all the gear, he has got something far more valuable- hours of experience on the bank, and this is worth more than any pole or box you can buy.

That said, I can see why people do spend a lot of money on gear they may not be 'ready' for. If you draw next to a top angler with a £2000 pole and you only have a £1000 pole and it is fishing long up to an island for example, you are disadvantaged straight away, both in terms of equipment and confidence, so if you can afford to have a top of the range pole then there is an argument for having one. If having a top of the range pole means you can' t afford to fish as much, I would definitely go fishing as oppose to buying what you can't afford!

tarts!!!!! i sit on a piece of crap brilo that looks tatty as hell with a pole thats like frankenstein, but still catch plenty of fish so who cares???? but i suppose u get these sort of people in every sport, im sure there are loads of rubbish golfers with the best clubs ever. but hey its what gives ya kicks i suppose. id much rather spend my money on getting elastics line hooks etc right rather than buying a rive box etc and also id rather get my rigs right than clean my box or wash my pole. i mean washing poles- whats all tht about???

how about health problems? i suffer back problems myself so a comfy seat/box might get priority over a quality pole?

it makes sense to me mate, you look after yourself as best you can on the bank and that means the best and most comfortable gear you can get for yourself, a better or more comfortable seat or a top notch thermal suit gets priority over everything, including poles and rods
