Default Maver Barnsley Blacks

They used to be the best team in the country, but in recent years it seems they are losing their edge slightly. They only just scraped through on the Walsall Canal today after all. Your thoughts?

I am going to put a southern slant on this and say that Diawa Dorking are the best in the country and have been for years!

tut tut Stewart and I've just read you were born and bred in Leeds! To be fair, you are probably right though, much as I hate to admit it being a northerner! There is some talent coming through though, look at Lee Kerry, he is one of the best young anglers in the country.

No one will dispute Dorking are the number team at the moment but would Barnsley be classed as no2 in my opinion definately. Theyve made it to the winter league final yet again with very little practice on a venue theyve barely seen and fish nothing like it locally. Fishing in general and especially team fishing is about consistency and which ever way you want to look at it Barnsley are definately that.

im sorry but you cant base this weekends results on them going down hill!!!! that venue was ridiculously peggy and they did well to qualify off a naff draw!!! we fish against them all year and they are awesome!!! there second squad is stronger than most teams, i agree dorking are stronger but barnsley are definately a close second, they are very consistent and where second in the two major finals last year so cant exactly be considered as losing it???

Barnsley are still a threat believe me!!! I had Ian Didcote on the phone straight away after the semi to find out if Barnsley had qualified, they see them as their main threat, even more so on the Nene at Peterborough.

Didn't some of the Barnsley lads catch late on? How much clear of 4th place were they?

Firstly the match lasts for 5 hours and it doesn't matter when you catch so long as you do. Secondly is irrelevant how far they were ahead of 4th place they were AHEAD. The job in the semi is to get through to the final and they did it. Who remembers who wins the semis it's the winner of the final that gets remembered. Dorking definitely No. 1 in country but Barnsley will be challenging on final. Anyone who thinks they're a spent force is a bit short of grey matter.

An aging side???

We had 4 anglers under 27 in the semi. We also had missing 4 big names.

But we were delighted to qualify and will be up for the final big time.

We came second in both majo final last year and certainly want to go one better this year!

Dorking are no doubt a fantastic side, and I don't mind admitting they have the edge on us at the moment. But we are up for it big time and got some mega anglers coming through as well. So watch this space.
