Default Fish 4 5K

This competition sounds like a joke. For those who havent heard, it is a competion being run by Dragon Water Meadows in Linocolnshire. there are 15 qualifying matches the winner of each going through to a final. Anglers who fish pay £10 into the final prize pool on every match.

The bit that doesn't make sense is that the final is 30 pegs,15 being the anglers who have qualified and 15 being invited superstars. So all the regulars who have to fish for there places and put all the money in are then thrown in with invited superstars who have paid nothing in and never had to qualify!

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against superstars, if I was invited I would go, it is the format that is all wrong.

Yes but in order to make the final prestigious and encourage spectators to visit, they have to invite the stars coz they wouldnt fish it otherwise!

Superstars are not guarenteed to get into the fisho final but that doesnt stop the spectators. The idea of the qualifiers is great and is open to everyone including the SUPER STARS if they want to fish it they should pay there money and takes there chance like everyone else. This competition is like most in angling, sponsered by the anglers who enter it not by the company who puts there name at the front of it.

All those noughts are like a drug to us. We can't resist even though we know we are being shafted by the so called sponsors and i don't only include Dragon in this. If we want to win big bucks then we need to stump up more pools money and fish winner takes all. A forty pegger with £50 pools would give a £2000 pound winner, and a 100 pegger with same pools would give a five grand winner. Remembering it costs £40 an angler (20 entry and 20 pools)just to fish in a Maver pairs qualifier what do you think?

Sounds like a great idea Bolan, there is a tackle shop in Sheffield that runs a match along these lines, and it is almost always a sell out. I wonder if there would be any interest in a match run by the site along similar lines?

I'm not sure I would want to be fishing WTA matches all the time. I would like to know where you would fish these matches Bolan, my calculations show that 40 x 50 = 2,000 do you know a water that would be good enough for a match like this where the owner would let you have it free? I don't think so. In actual fact your 50 quid becomes a lot more. Peg fees, bait, travelling etc.
To win more you have to pay more, I agree with that. Perhaps we should return to the good old fashioned optional pools instead of the all in price? The angler’s choice to enter what pools he/she wants to, all or some, each pool pays a number of winners depending on entry, but you have to be in it to win it. Trouble is if you make the entry too expensive you are going to reduce the numbers fishing.

A one off WTA is fine, make them a regular event and I think the entries will suffer.

I hear what you are saying about the fish45k but reading the reports in the angling press, the anglers seem to like them. The matches look to be 40 peggers, I have no idea how big the lakes are.
The end result is you pay your money, you take your chance. Object achieved for the organiser / sponsor, publicity.

Thats the whole truth with this competition and most like it, you do have to be in it to win it, the trouble with us anglers is that while we know we are being shafted with illusions of sponsored events big prize money and the like ( in most cases the entrants have paid for the whole thing and more) we openly accept it because we want to win it. The fishomania must be similar @ 130 entrants per round at £20 and 16 rounds before pools on the day thats a total of £41,600 if the sponsor really stumps up the £25000 then after day tickets thats a good chunk of anglers money going somewhere int it?????????????????

About time that fisho changed, bigger pot to the winner and pay places.
