Talking AnglingTimes - Page 53

Anyone see the photo of the 'Grumpy Old Man' on page 53 of today's Angling Times? I have no idea when it was taken or by whom or even how the A Times obtained a copy, I send in the match results and have sent the odd photo that I have taken but never one of me. They had some that Ted Rowe their photographer took of me on the Yare a few years back but they are summer photo's. This is certainly a winter one!

Anyway last weekends results were:-

Only 2 Results to report this week as we didn't have enough for our Wednesday match at 2.30 on Tuesday so I cancelled it. I then had 5 people trying to book in later on Tuesday, the last one at 21.45 and those 5 would have been ample to run the match. Obviously I can't let the bookings run after 2.30 as I have to contact people from as far afield as Norwich and Walton on Naze who will want to book in elsewhere if they have prepared bait etc.

As it happens I already have 9 people booked in for this coming Wednesday so the match is likely to go ahead. The following Wednesday the schools are off as well so again I expect there will be a match but please, please, please book in before 2.30 on the eve of the match. Preferably by email or text as I then have a record.

Saturday 12/12/09 - Silver fish only match on M1

16 anglers fished a very tight match at the top with the Golden Peg money under a severe threat until John Dale the eventual winner of the match managed to land 4 large tench in 4 put-ins on the pole that took him from nowhere to top position. Water Temperature was 6.7C and there was a cold NE wind of 10mph with odd showers throughout the day. Minimum overnight temperature was 3C and a daytime max of 6.8C around mid day. Air pressure was 1032 dropping to 1031 throughout the day. For any Tendering Tanglers people fishing their Xmas Match tomorrow on M1 there were a few showing but not in enormous numbers.

1st John Dale, Nisa Waveney, fishing the pole and pellet form peg 31landed 4 tench and a few skimmers for 18lb 15oz
2nd Bob Wessels, Nisa Waveney/Bait- Tech, on GPeg 29 caught most of his fish on a top 2 + 1 section on caster including a perch of 1lb 12oz. Bob also hooked 3 carp on the same gear. He weighed 18lb 10oz
3rd Nick Larking fished the pong pole with red maggot on peg 37 and had 2 bream, one about 4lb and one about 3lb. He also had a small tench and the rest of his fish were mostly skimmers and roach for 16lb 0oz
4th John Platten, fished an open ended groundbait feeder and maggot on peg 27 for a weight of 14lb 3oz
5th Keith Gooderham, on peg 6 fished the long pole and had a couple of tench and some nice skimmers for 13lb 10oz.
6th John Whitehouse fished the long pole and bloodworm on peg 7 for a mostly roach catch of 11lb 14oz

Sunday 13/12/09 - Open Match on M2

Water Temperature was 6.0C nearly 1C colder than M1 and considerably clearer. You could easily see the end of your keepnet in about 5 foot of water. There was a cold N wind veering to NE by the end of the match with a maximum of 16mph and odd showers throughout the day. Minimum overnight temperature was 2.6C and a daytime max of 5.8C around mid day. Air pressure was 1028 dropping to 1026 throughout the day. The moon is waning crescent 7% of full.

It was the usual fair on M2 with the end pegs by the trees coming in 1st and 2nd. Both anglers catching 90% of their fish in the last hour and a half when it appeared that almost every carp in the lake was piled into a small piece of water! It was a fish for fish race to see who could make the most of the bonanza. Strangely, both anglers discovered independently that the fish wanted punched bread on a straight lead cast towards the reeds but not right into the shallow water which was tap water clear.

1st Richard Watson, Nisa Waveney, on peg 72 fishing a straight lead and punched bread and probably had 7lb in the net by 1.30 then like a switch being thrown the fish started to feed and it was a bite a cast landing another 13 fish to weigh 64lb 4oz
2nd Dave (Huggy!) Hughes, Suffolk Water Park, on peg 43 fished in the same manner and again it wasn't until the last hour and a bit of the match that Dave started to catch. Dave weighed in 9 carp for 45lb 8oz
3rd John Dale, Nisa Waveney, on peg 71 had a couple of largish carp on the pole and corn early in the match including one of 10lb 8oz but his peg died as the match went on except for the skimmers that got stronger. John ended the match with 38lb 10oz
4th Nathan Gooderham, on peg 44 did very well fishing the feeder aand the straight lead to land 37lb 8oz
5th Glenn Hubbard, Diawa Angling Direct, fished the pole and pellet all day on peg 69 for a hard earned 20lb 14oz
6th Aaron Coleman, Suffolk Water Park/Bait-Tech, couldn't find any carp in the bottom half of the lake and I understand that he cast his lead into most of it from peg 63! He did manage some nice skimmers though when he wasn't distance casting to 10lb 2oz

I believe that peg 27 won the Tendering Tanglers match on M1 with 25lb odd. Peg 28 (their Golden Pegon the day) was 2nd!
