Chestnut Pool, Langford, near.Biggleswade This venue is solid with both carp and skimmers showing well. It is fishing well all round with no particular areas standing out as any better than others. Fish a feeder to the island works well, but the margins often producing the biggest carp, the largest caught recently weighed a whopping 20lb 12oz. There are loads of skimmers to be caught on the pole which often feed well on sweetcorn as well as the usual pellet and paste methods. Sweetcorn fished over pellet on the pole is a very successful method in matches. Tel: Pete on 01462 701 865.
Grand Union Canal, nr. Leighton Buzzard The canal is stuffed with roach and skimmers that feed well on maggot and caster, but there are also carp to be caught everywhere, mainly to pellet baits although small white boilies also work. With more and more anglers using pellet on the canal the larger bream also seem to be getting a taste for them . If you fancy a mixed net of smaller fish the golf range section at Ivinghoe is often good for fine catches of roach, perch and skimmers. Tel: Dave on 01582 862 778.
Great Ouse, Harrold Wellingborough and District Nene Angling Club’s stretch of Ouse opposite Harrold Country Park at Chellington is a seriously exciting water. Barbel anglers can expect plenty of fish, come late autumn and winter and with some colour in the water can be fantastic. There are plenty of decent chub showing in the shallows along with roach and perch, further downstream large bream shoals have been spotted and the odd fish has been caught, one angler had an eel over 4lb and one barbel targeting club member fishing luncheon meat had a surprise when a 21 ½ lb carp took his offering. Fishing is only available to club members and is from the southern bank from the bridge down the Odell Village. Membership details from Mr D Heed on 01933 674 263.
Toddington Fishery, Toddington There are plenty of good carp to be caught on surface baits with bread and dog biscuits often producing well. Float fished luncheon meat is a method which has also accounted for several catfish up to 12lb as bonus fish to anglers fishing for the carp. There have also been some really good perch caught from this stretch , After mid summer they seem to stop eating fry and readily take anglers baits. Try float fishing worms for some lovely stripeys. Tel: John on 07855 321 781.
