Time is just passing me by at the moment; I have just not found enough of the precious commodity to
KJS Fisheries
With three sites situated just a few minutes from Sheffield and Rotherham town centres, KJS fisheries is one of South Yorkshires most popular angling hotspots. Boasting six lakes and a total of over 200 pegs, whether you like carp fishing, bagging some silvers, or just a mixed day catching everything that swims, there is something at KJS Fishery for you.
The biggest site is located just off Station Road in Killamarsh, and houses four lakes. The first lake as you enter is known somewhat misleadingly as the ‘Silverfish Lake’ and while it does boast a fantastic head of silverfish, it also contains plenty of carp!
In the warmer months, shallow fished maggot is a consistent approach on here that will see a steady stream of roach, rudd and ide coming to the net, with weights to 50lb possible when the fish are having it. If carp are your target, meat is a more consistent method and with the average stamp being quite large, a really good weight can be on the cards when the fish show up.
West Pines is on the left hand side as you drive further on to the complex. There can be few lakes in the country that are as picturesque as this one, with islands, bays and pools giving it a truly rustic look. In one place, you are fishing up to a cliff face! In terms of stocking, again West Pines is mixed, with a good head of carp (including some interesting looking ornamentals) as well as plenty of skimmers, roach, rudd and ide to keep bites coming even in the hardest of conditions.
The most popular lake at the complex for the match anglers is the canal pool. Split into two halves , every peg has a feature to fish to in the shape of a far bank full of reeds. Long pole fished up to this far bank with corn is a popular ploy, as is paste fished on a short line, which will often snare the bigger specimens.
Above the canal, but accessed through a different entrance on Boiley Lane is fishery. Again, this lake is stocked with a wide range of fish, but is currently undergoing something of a makeover, so watch this space for a full update in the future.
A couple of miles to the north east of these two sites, located below the popular Aston Park Fisheries is KJS Aston Fisheries. This is an established venue with a fantastic head of old stock fish , alongside newer additions. With a massive head of roach and ide, as well as some big old bream to 7lb, the silverfish sport alone is fantastic. When you twin this with a large head of carp, from stock fish of one and two pound to old time munters up to 20lb, you can see that KJS Aston is a truly mixed venue. Best tactics on here include bomb and corn or meat for the carp, or maggots fished at all depths for the silvers.
Breakfast is available on site at both the Aston and Killamarsh locations. Rules are slightly different at all lakes, so you are as well checking before hand if you have any queries. Day tickets are £5. More info: 0114 2470876
