Around the first weekend in November a strange phenomenon happens in the Duchy, local match anglers that have seemingly hibernated
West Yorkshire Police Match.
This saturday saw me compete in the 16th annual west yorkshire police match on the Horbury canal, Wakefield. The fishing was extremly hard with 1lb in some sections being a good weight. Tha match was won by local lad Joel Whitley with a weight of 6lb 5oz off of peg 145. Second was a Garbolino Osset lad with a weight of 5 and a half pound. Both anglers fished squatt and ground bait between 11m and 14.5m to good effect cathcing some quality roach up to 12oz.
However my match didn’t follow a similar pattern as a was second in the section and 5th overall with 2lb 14oz all on squatt the section was won by the Osset lad off peg 161. My main tactics of the match were to fish squatt at 6m and 12m. I first fed my 6m line with a ping pong ball sized ball of grounbait laced with squatt and pinkie. Istarted on this line with no bites decided to go and fish my 12m line and thats where all the fish were holding just infront of a patch of cabages. I caught 33 fish and felt as if i fished well to wangel the fish outwere as either side caught only one or two fish on the same tactics.
Coaching Success
Last wednesday saw myself and 6 anglers attend the worksop and district national fishing week coaching session on Sandhill lake. The session was a huge succes with over 25 people antending despite the poor weather conditions. Fellow fishing4fun bloger Matt Godfrey helped out and he proved to be the most popular coach there.
Even though we all got drenched to the skin the fishing was superb with the odd carp and Tench being caught. Spawny Matt skag a carp off the next peg, lucky boy!! Overall a superb evening of fun and maybe more of these sessions in the future.
