Having been introduced to the website by Stewy Lister and then speaking to Tom I am pleased to have joined what is a quality team of anglers and I feel I am going to have to pull my finger out. I will state now I am no superstar and see myself as a steady points scorer in team matches. I love team fishing and that is mostly what I will be talking about here. You wont be getting me writing about my latest big match win but what I hope to give you is an insight into the match scene in and around Surrey, Kent and Sussex and an in depth look at the mechanics of a fishing team warts and all.
The team I fish for is called Trabucco South East but was up until a few weeks ago called Meatbashers. The name may sound strange but it evolved from a group of blokes who used to fish various venues around the South East and had a bit of a reputation for fishing meat. This mainly came from fishing a venue called Stubpond Fisheries ( see pic below) which is a commercial carp venue. I must admit I did used to get some funny looks in the petrol station with ‘ MeatBashers ’ written on my T shirt. As with all things though the team has evolved and now we have taken our team fishing up a level and the name change reflects what John ‘Swannie’ Swann calls ‘being a bit more profesh’.
More recently we qualified for the Angling Times Winter League Semi Final from the Sussex Winter League but due to a few disasters on a couple of rounds we finished second to a very good Surrey Starlets side and ended up on the Kennet and Avon canal. As a team we make no secret of the fact that we are at the present time commercial anglers and some of our team were a bit apprehensive of fishing the canal. That said we finished 9th out of 14 teams and although that doesn’t sound great we beat all the local teams from our area that had qualified and without a couple of bad results would have been right up there. ( Don’t we always say that? )
Just prior to the Winter League Semi we had signed the sponsorship deal with Trabucco/ Masterline and 2008 is hopefully going to be an exciting year for the team as we have a few new signings in the pipeline and I am looking for the team to move onwards and upwards. Obviously there are going to be highs and lows which is the nature of match fishing but hopefully I will have plenty to write about over the coming months.
The spring and summer is going to be taken up fishing the Sussex Summer League and the Drennan Super League on waters such as Monks Lakes, Mushroom Farm, Passies, Willow Park and Willinghurst to name a few.
As with Stewart and a few of my fellow writers on the site, in April I will be off as usual to Whiteacres for the Dynamite Baits Festival and I am already getting rigs sorted for that.
So over the coming weeks I will introduce you to some of the Trabucco South East team and hopefully there will be plenty to write about and hopefully it will be enjoyable for everyone concerned, so welcome to South of Watford.
Cheers
Mark
