Leeds Winter League. Match 1.
Poor first hour. Again.
Last week saw the first match of the Leeds winter League which was held at Forest Lane Fishery nr Selby. Coming into the match I felt pretty confident of a decent days fishing as there was a slight ripple on the water, overcast and mild. However, like all commercial venues it was very peggy so I knew a good draw was vital. I managed a decent draw actually as I drew end peg 3. Result!! This didn’t pay off though as the carp seemed to be at the opposite end of the lake in more open water where as the peg I was on was like a canal and only 12m wide. I started off feeding micro pellets and fishing 4m on the hook over to the far bank. This method only brought a surprise decent perch and two roach. After the slow first hour things picked up as I began two keep a steady run of fish in the net nothing huge but I was doing enough to win the section, which is the main thing.
One Last Push.
In the last hour I had gone from winning the section two about 4th as the other three at the other end of the section had found a few decent carp and skimmers. Thankfully, it was my turn to catch some decent stamp fish as in the last hour I netted a dozen small common carp on the corn. Luckily, the late switch two corn paid off as I won the section and was 4th in the match with a weight of 8lb 9oz.
