Last Saturday Saw the second match of the 3 match mini series run by Stuart Lilley from the Worksop guardian. The match is a perfect opportunity for young anglers to come of an evening and fish at one of Bassetlaws top match venues. In the first match it fished poor due to the fish spawning. Anyways this match was an absolute cracker with the top 10 all getting a combined weight of 387lb 5oz.
The match is only 3 hours long so the key was to catch for the whole 3 hours. At the draw I pulled out un-fancied peg 33 in the corner of the lake. When I got to the peg there were no signs of any fish of any size so I thought 20lb would be an exceptional weight. The match was won off one of the best pegs on the lake peg 28. Worksop Junior Angler Steven Bradley had an awesome weight of 60lb 15oz all on paste fished at 6m. So when I knew who was on that peg I knew I had no chance of winning.
In the first hour I’d had 31 fish and 1 of those was a 13lb carp so I knew I was well on the way to 40lb plus. After that the skimmers and ide came thick and fast and at the all out I ended up with 69 fish and only two carp and I got through two and a half tins of meat. at the weigh in I had 47lb 3oz and needless to say I was shocked with the lad at side of me having 5 carp and weighing in 31lb.
Well that was one of the best evening matches I’d had and hopefully the last match will be as good.
