Tuesday was the first evening match this year at our local BW Kiveton Waters. The draw is at 5:15 we fish 6-9, 3 hours. I drew peg 33, right round the far bank, one peg off an absolute end peg flyer that the spawney (‘I like little boys’) Darren drew. Still, it was an OK draw, and I was hoping for a few fish in the evening.
I didn’t have much time to set up, so it was dead simple. My main line, 10m in front in 5 ft of water, where I used a 0.3g Crallusso Capri float on 0.13 Power Line to a 16 B911. I also had an outflow o my right, so I fished 7 sections towards that, with an identical rig. All that I had on the bait tray was pellets. Micros and 4mm fishery pellets for feeding, and 4mm expanders for the hook.
At the all in I cupped a few 4mm pellets on my line in front, and about half a pot down the side of the outflow. Daz on the end was into a fish before I had even got a rig in, fishing long to his left down the side. I got my first bite half an hour in, by which time paddy next door had about 8 stockies. However, it was one of the better tench, and you can soon knock a weight up with them. I fed a kinder pot of pellets every time, and caught steady for the next hour, netting about 10 tench to 2lb, and the odd small carp. Then the wind started coming off our backs, I had a few daft bites, and things slowed right down.
I tried not feeding, and went down the side. First drop it buried with an 8oz skimmer, but nothing followed. I tried fishing longer…..nothing. I had two small tench back on the main line, and decided that this was the best line, so I stuck at it for the last hour. I picked the odd fish up, until the end, catching 6 in the last hour.
The guy on peg 22 opposite had caught well from the off all the way through, and Daz (‘I like little boys’) had plenty too. Everyone had caught a few fish. The chap on 22 weighed in 46lb of stockies, a good 3 hours fishing, and there were two more 30lb weights the best being 32lb 13oz when the scales got the me.
I managed 33lb 09oz, just to get in front, but its only one fish difference! Daz (‘I like little boys’) weighed 38lb odd!!! HE HAD MY PANTS DOWN……..GAVE ME A PROPER SPANKING………MY BUM IS STILL HURTING NOW!!! Mind you, his peg is the best peg in South Yorkshire.
He put me in third place, still ok though!
